Payson/Pine/Strawberry is a resort area so reservations should be made as far in advance as possible. However, last-minute reservations may be possible due to cancellations.
Bring comfortable walking shoes, casual seasonal clothes, including a jacket or sweater. In winter bring boots and warm clothes.

TRAVEL
Visitors flying into Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix usually rent cars or they can use:

WHITE MOUNTAIN PASSENGER LINES
Monday - Saturday
(
866) 255-4819
https://www.go-arizona.com/White-Mountain-Passenger-Lines/

Sky Harbor Airport: For pickups they ask that you call a week in advance to make reservations. Airport shuttle time is 12:30 PM. Service is provided only between Phoenix and Payson. You can contact New Life to arrange for someone to pick you up in Payson. Passengers are shuttled from their terminal at Sky Harbor Airport to the White Mountain Lines depot at 24th Street in Phoenix. Airport service is an additional $5 fee. When you make your reservation you’ll be given all the details.

Seat Reservations: Reservations must be paid for in advance ($40 one way, $80 round trip) and 48 hours notice is needed to make any changes. Remaining seats are assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Therefore, they encourage passengers to be punctual. (They do have a 10% senior discount for people over 62. Travel time between Phoenix and Payson is about 2 hours.)
Note: Arizona is on Mountain Standard Time year-round.
(You can also fly into Flagstaff which is approximately an hour and a half drive from New Life. Flights into Flagstaff tend to be more expensive, but a car can be rented there and it is a beautiful drive to Strawberry.

TRAVEL
It is highly recommended that if you are flying into the Los Angeles area to attend the Southern California classes, fly into John Wayne Airport or Long Beach Airport. They are very convenient, much simpler for boarding and picking up your luggage and will save you a lot of driving time, etc.

Pagosa Springs, Colorado

TRAVEL
Pagosa Springs is a beautiful rural alpine resort town. The elevation is 7,079. There are basically 3 ways to get to Pagosa. You can fly into Durango, CO which is 60 miles west of Pagosa. It is a little pricey because the only direct flights into Durango are from Phoenix, AZ., Denver, CO. and Dallas, TX. You can check with your travel agent or go online and try to find the best price. There is Pagosa Cab taxi service with Airport Shuttle to and from the Durango Airport (970-398-0123) and also public transportation called MET (Mountain Express Transit) in Pagosa Springs if needed (970-264-2250).
The second way is to fly into Albuquerque, NM and rent a car and drive to Pagosa from there. It is about a 4 hour drive. Take I-25 to Santa Fe. Take Exit 276 onto Loop 599 going north to Hwy. 84 North. There’s a tricky turn in Espanola. Just stay on 84 North to Chama, NM. In Chama, 84 takes a hard left turn to continue on to Pagosa Springs.
The third way is to drive. If you are driving from the north (Denver direction), the quickest route to take is Hwy. 285 out of west Denver. It takes about 7 hours to get from Denver to Pagosa. If you are coming from the east or the west take Hwy. 160. If you are coming from California or Arizona it is best to take I-40 to NM Hwy. 491 North out of Gallup, NM. Hwy. 491 will take you into Farmington, NM where you will pick up Hwy. 550 which takes you to  Durango, CO. Once there take Hwy. 160 East into Pagosa. It’s a little tricky in Farmington. We can send you more detailed information on this route if you are coming from that direction.
Below is a list of recommended places to stay. In most cases you can get AAA or AARP discounts. If you make reservations ahead of time, you can get better prices. Summer rates will be in effect. It is also recommended that you make reservations ASAP if you think you might or are planning to attend. You can always go online and check it out further if you prefer. We did spend some time checking all these places out and have picked the best, cleanest and in most cases the most reasonable places to stay:
